7¼" Gauge Roanoke Petrol Locomotive
7¼" Gauge Roanoke Petrol Locomotive
7¼" gauge petrol shunter and tender, one of around 60 built by Roanoke in the early 2000s.
Tecumseh 5.5hp petrol engine driving a Eaton 7 hydrostatic drive unit. Chain drive from there to the rear axle via a layshaft. Engine is fitted with electric start and a horn and headlight are also fitted.
12mm bolted steel chassis with 3mm steel bodywork. The bonnet hinges forward for easy access to the engine.
Well proportioned driving tender with ample space under the seat to fit a vacuum pump or air compressor for train brakes if you desire.
Although currently 7¼" gauge the frame spacing would allow conversion to 10¼" gauge - we are currently resisting the temptation to do this ourselves and keep the loco as a works shunter...
Roanoke had a well deserved reputation for building rugged commercial kit, so this loco would be at home on a commercial railway as well as a private line.
