SOLD - 10¼" Gauge Diesel Hydraulic Tram

SOLD - 10¼" Gauge Diesel Hydraulic Tram

Not something you see very often in 10 ¼” gauge!

This was originally built as a steam outline locomotive in the late 1980s by Ray Prime - one of three miniature diesel locomotives he built, by coincidence we happen to have all three at the moment.

Commissioned for Buxton Council, it spent ten years running in the park there before Alan Keef replaced the whole railway in the late 1990s. Sold by Keefs to a private railway, the new owner set about a heavy rebuild with new tram body. After two decades in the same hands the decision was taken to sell up, we dismantled the whole railway at the end of last summer.

The Prime diesels were all robustly constructed and this is generally well set up for private use. As nice as the body is, if using commercially we would be tempted to replace it with something a little easier to get in and out of.

  • 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engine driving an Eaton 11 hydraulic pump, a hydraulic motor then driving all four wheels via chain drive.
  • Welded steel chassis
  • Body is steel frame with wooden panels - the side panels remove for access to the engine bay.
  • Hand brake
  • Air compressor fitted but the air brake system is incomplete.

88.5” long

31.5” wide

55” high over bell
