10¼” Gauge 2-4-0 Steam Locomotive

A freelance 10¼” gauge steam locomotive, owing its origin to Don Young’s Maxi Lucky 7.

Started by a well-known commercial railway operator on the South Coast, when he lost his site the loco was sold in part built condition. The current owner finished it for his private railway in 2006.

The Maxi Lucky 7 design is of the 2-4-4 Forney type locomotives used on the 2ft gauge railroads in Maine. To make the loco a bit more user friendly, the rear bogie and bunker have been separated to form a small tender. It has also been finished with a British outline.

  • 4” diameter cylinders
  • 12” diameter driving wheels
  • Steel boiler with copper tubes, working pressure of 100psi.
  • Steam brake on locomotive, hand brake on tender
  • Roller bearing axleboxes

It should prove a capable machine for private or commercial use; its home railway has a 1 in 20 ruling gradient and it has been known to romp up the hill with 8 wagons & coaches full of visitors.

Maintained in good order through its life, since completion it has run approximately 300 miles, and it should prove a capable machine for private or commercial use.
